Did you know that buying products from Direct Seller’s (Reps, Consultants and Independent Distributors) is really good for your local and country economy? Yup, many of the companies who rely on their Direct Seller’s are small in comparison to the big box stores. While the prices at a box store may seem appealing what is getting lost in the shuffle is all the capital they’re taking in, I’ll explain how…

Consider this...

Consider this...

Everything that is sold in a retail store is marked up about 50% and 30% of the price the box store pays for a product immediately goes to the middlemen. This is not to say these people don’t work hard and deserve what they make. I’m simply saying that a lot of the money spent in box stores does NOT go back into ones community and quite often it doesn’t even stay in your country.

That’s a large percentage of money that never reaches the hands of the average worker/employee… but rather trickles right on up to the higher management positions. Have you wondered ‘why’ minimum wage in the US has not increased in the past 10 years? This is why, too much greed at the top. The bulk of the money these huge companies bring in goes straight past the average person.

In Direct Selling businesses, that 30% does go to the average person, those nearest to the person who makes the purchase of the item. For instance, when someone makes a purchase from me the other Independent Distributors (who support and train me) who are nearest me, and myself, split the 30% between us… then when we each get our commission checks we pay our bills, buy things, and enjoy local entertainment with that money earned.

About 70% of the money a Direct Seller earns in commissions STAYS in that persons community.

• Cassia: “five hundred shekels”

These days more than ever it’s a good idea to become a “Label Reader” - in that teeny-tiny fine print on the label manufacturers do list ’some’ ingredients (I say ’some’ because it’s ‘not’ mandatory, by the US government, for companies to list all of the ingredients - and some products don’t list any ingredients, which you can be 100% certain contain some of the worst toxic chemicals).

Between advertising, less than honest companies looking to capitalize on a study done by someone who has a “special interest,” and the fact that new chemicals and slight variatons of old ones comprise a larger than ever percentage of ingredients we can very safely assume that these products are nothing more than a ‘wolf in sheep’s clothing.” So, these companies lead us around like bull’s with rings in our noses and we are expected to follow like ‘good little sheep’ and never question them or resist.

Here’s a list of ’some’ of what is commonly found in the products you use daily (I say ‘you’ because I don’t spend my money on products that contain these and other toxins) - look at the labels on the personal care products in your home right now and see what’s in them. It’s better to be a label reader now, than to pay for it dearly later! So get out those reading glasses and have a look-see…

This is a lovely homemade body rub that’s easy to make. What will enhance skin texture and skin softness is that when you’ve finished showering/rinsing off don’t rub your skin dry - while still in the shower wick the water off your body with your hand and let your skin air-dry, it’s amazing what a difference this can make!

Berry-Lavender Body Rub

3-4 drops Young Living Lavender essential oil

1 cup fine sea salt

3 ripe strawberries or raspberries

1 Tbsp. apricot or almond oil

Pour salt into a bowl, add the essential oil and strawberries or raspberries and mash together.

Gently rub a small handful of the salt mixture over your body in brisk yet gentle circular motions - spending extra time on knees, elbows and heels.

Rinse off. No moisturizer needed.

Note: this mixture can be stored in the refrigerator in a covered container for up to two weeks - ready to use.

How are digestive enzymes destroyed or rendered inactive?

1. Chemical cultivation. When natural food is grown in an artificial, chemical environment created by chemical fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides, enzyme content suffers.

2. Heat. Enzymes begin breaking down at 118° F and are totally destroyed at 129° F.

3. Pasteurization, Sterilization, Freezing, Micro-waving. All these modern processes render enzymes inactive.

One of the most effective ways of preventing disease is to maintain an ample reserve of enzymes in the body.

Medical research shows that food enzyme supplements can fight illness, slow the development of life-threatening diseases, and slow the effects of aging. Dr. Francis Pottinger conducted an amazing study with over 900 cats. He fed one group of cats raw milk and meat. They lived healthy and disease free. They produced healthy litters generation after generation. He fed another group of cats pasteurized milk and cooked food. After the first generation, this group became lethargic and began to suffer from allergies, infections, and other diseases, including heart, kidney, and lung diseases. Each succeeding generation of cats that ate cooked food suffered more diseases. By the third generation, the cats were unable to reproduce.

Another study showed that after eating cooked food, the human body reacted just as if suffering an acute illness. Within 30 minutes of eating cooked food, white blood cell counts increased dramatically, as though the body were fighting an infectious disease.

In a very interesting experiment, one group of pigs was fed enzyme-rich raw potatoes and another group enzyme-deficient cooked potatoes. The pigs eating cooked potatoes gained weight rapidly. The pigs that were eating raw potatoes did not get fat.

An area of deep concern is obesity. Dr. David Galton at the Tufts University School of Medicine tested people weighing 230-240 pounds. He found that almost all of them were lacking lipase enzymes in their fatty tissues.

Professor of Consumerism

Professor of Consumerism

Our country is facing serious times. On the heels of sky-high fuel prices this summer, a massive financial crisis has sent the economy into a tailspin. As the holiday shopping season kicks into high gear, do consumers ever wonder what goes into producing all of those items that we go into hock for and what happens to their stuff from holidays past?

Consumer mania may have been born from the post World War II era, but economic manipulation has driven consumerism to where it is today and the condition of the environment. From the limited life cycle of personal computers to changes in footwear fashion, products are either designed to be regularly replaced or to convince consumers that their stuff needs to be upgraded. This notion of planned and perceived obsolescence drives the machine of American consumerism year round.

How we can invent and invest our way out of the pollution-based grey economy and into the healthy new green economy?

In the book, The Green Collar Economy, acclaimed activist and political advisor Van Jones delivers a real solution that both rescues our economy and saves the environment. A New York Times best-seller The Green Collar Economy is not a dire warning but rather a substantive and viable plan for solving the biggest issues facing the country–the failing economy and our devastated environment. From a distance, it appears that these two problems are separate, but when we look closer, the connection becomes unmistakable.

Stacy Malkan’s groundbreaking expose’ about toxic chemicals in personal care products has won a top award from the independent publishing industry. The contest honors the best independently published books of the year in 64 categories.

It is for all the reasons above why I’ve taken the time to learn about Young Living therapeutic-grade essential oils and create this blog… so that I might help others make a difference in their lives and in the world. If you’re interested in some of the ways I use essential oils in place of common over-the-counter medicines and toxic household cleaners visit my page on Making the Switch.

The origin or the word frankincense is uncertain. Some scholars say that ‘frank’ can be translated as “true” or “honest,” meaning “true incense.” Another explanation sees the word as  a combination of the Old French word franc meaning “pure” or “abundant,” added to the Latin word incensum, meaning “to kindle.”

Although there are inexpensive grades of frankincense, the highest quality resin is very, very costly. But during ancient times it was even more expensive. An average person back then could likely not afford it. In my opinion, therapeutic-grade Young Living Frankincense is worth every penny - the power in each drop I use is savored as I watch it perform its magic.

Frankincense is one of my most favorite Young Living essential oils - I always make sure to have a bottle in my case. It’s an amazing oil for aromatherapy use and for healing - it’s terrific for the skin (please remember, do not to use the cheap versions they are unhealthy and they are certainly not the same healing quality of the ancients). Learn more about how therapeutic-grade Frankincense is used. Young Living’s Manna Bars, a low calorie snack bar, contains the essential oil of Frankincense.

Frankincense Trees

Frankincense Tree

Frankincense Tree

Frankincense, an oleo-gum resin, comes from a deciduous, often shrub-like tree of the Burseraceae (balsam) family. The genus is Boswellia, and various species within this genus are used to obtain the resin. The tree has particular habitat requirements. There was an attempt in Egypt around 1480 BC, detailed in the funerary temple of Queen Hatshepsut in Luxor, to import frankincense and myrrh trees and establish them for local use.
